Are firm pillowtop mattresses good for back pain?

What are the best mattresses for fibromyalgia?
I went looking tonight for matresses and I really liked the icomfort series which is gel and memory foam but my favorite was prana which is all latex. So prana should be the no brainer but its 4,000 dollars too expensive and I would rather not put that much money into that matress if I can help it. I really dont want to spend more than 2,000 dollars. I know it depends on the person but I have a majority of my pain in my hips and I tend to move alot. If that helps. Oh and I have heard about sleep number beds and I dont want one. Any sugesstions would be very helpful because I want a bed this week.

Good mattresses for someone with Scoliosis?
Like pillow top, some sort of foam, spring? I don't even know.I had a really soft pillow top one before, but i ended up having to trade it for my brother's spring mattress cause it hurt my back.

Best SINGLE mattress for back-aches!?
I have a severe back injury at thirteen I know and I'm looking for a mattress that would be more comfortable for it ? Any ideas? And specific mattresses not just the make please

Serta Mattress Question?
I would like to know about Serta mattresses, when you buy them at the store and if you have problems can you return it and get your money back? What is the quality of these mattresses, did anyone have any problems with this mattress before?

Major shoulder and neck pain after sleeping on new mattress?
I got a new bed and mattress from laura ashley a few weeks ago and I've been waking up with bad upper back, neck and shoulder pain that carries on all day. Whenever I sleep on hotel mattresses or even camp beds I never get pain. My old mattress was also very worn and bad quality but I never got any pain. I am suprised as Laura Ashley is meant to be a good make and good quality, however the mattress seems very firm. I am really worried, I cannot get a new mattress and can't buy a thick, expensive mattress topper I have a good quality quilt one at the moment . Do you think that maybe the mattress is the wrong way round? It said on the packaging that it is a non flip mattress, so does that mean it has a specific side to sleep on the material seems the same but there is a label stitched onto the top of one side of the mattress, should this be facing the floor or facing the ceiling at the moment it's facing the ceiling . Also do you think I just have to get used to it after sleeping on the same mattress for 6 years? like I said when I've slept on other beds for as much as two weeks I''ve never had trouble even amazing quality ones ? If I do have to get used to it how long will it take? Thank you for taking the time to read and answer, sorry for the length. Please answer all the seperate questions. PLEASE help

Is it better for a bad back to sleep on a mattress that is old and damaged or on the floor with comforters?
My back has been in pain for about the last week. Yesterday it was horrible so all day I did stretches that I learned in physical therapy about a year ago. unfortunately this is not the first encounter with back pain for me . My mattress is directly on the ground no box spring or frame, and it is kinda old, flat, bumpy, caved in, and unsupportive. I am about 350lbs yes I know that's the main reason I have back pain and that pretty much means i ruin mattresses. My question is, is it better for me to sleep on like 3 comforters and a foam pad on my carpeted basement floor than my crappy bed??? I did last night and I actually kinda felt a Lil better this morning. Thanks in advance

Which type of mattress is best for your back?
I'm living on a budget so a fancy tempurpedic or sleep number mattress is not what I'm looking for. I'm wondering of traditional mattresses is it better for your back to sleep on a box spring, futon, or floor pad?

New mattress seems to be causing my lower back to hurt....?
I am a newlywed. My wife and I bought an Aireloom mattress. These are rather expensive " organic" mattresses. The Pillow Top is one of the softest most fluffy tops we found. Here's the scenario My old mattress, that I slept on for 10 years was fairly firm. My wife has bad knees and prefers lots of softness. I have always said I can sleep on anything. I never have issues at hotels or couches, etc. However, since getting this bed, my lower back hurts every morning. The pain usually goes away not long after waking up. We still have the ability to return the bed. We tried sleeping on her old bed, which is also a pillow top, but it's not overly soft, and my back still hurt in the morning. We have wondered if the problem is not the mattress, but possibly has something to do with me getting used to sharing a bed with someone. I am possibly sleeping more tense out of fear of kicking her? I have very active dreams This weekend we are going to try sleeping on my old firm bed and see how my back feels when I wake up on it.In the meantime, I have some questions 1 Can I buy a topper to make the fluffiness less fluffy? this would throw the " organic" concept out the window 2 If we decide to return it for a different mattress, I'm confused on what we should get. Supposedly, we are allowed one return, so we gotta get it right on the next go around.Any ideas?

Anyone know about foam mattress toppers, and their links to joint, thyroid, birth defects and other disorders?
I recently heard a portion of something on the news that mentioned some of these foam mattress toppers memory foam found on many of todays mattresses are now being linked to many disorders due to the chemical content found within. Everything from thyroid problems, skin disorders possible cancers, bone joint disorders, respiratory problems, and a whole slew of other things.I know in this day and age with all the plastic tupperware type containers and their chemicals bleaching into our food, household detergents, etc etc etc...we hear about this stuff continuously being linked to sickness, birth defects and whatnot. But this is the first I've heard about this foam topper issue. Makes sense, as that foam is loaded with chemicals Fire retardant PBDE's en.wikipedia.org wiki PBDEPolyurethane en.wikipedia.org wiki PolyurethaneI recently found these two links...Bed & Mattress Illness Report PageReports of health problems linked to chemicals used in mattresseschem tox.com guest guestbook.htmlChemicals and VOC's Volatile Organic Compounds in Mattresses myessentia.com research glues toxic componentsI was just wondering, does anyone have more info on this? Or do you know someone who has suffered from illness that has been linked directly to mattress toppers, or other types of foam bedding? Thanks I'm well aware of internet hysteria, how easily things can be being blown out of proportion. I'm a fairly educated individual...but what I've read thus far seems plausible. After all, most of us spend 1 3 of our lives sleeping in our beds. In recent years our beds are full of toxic chemicals, not natural fibres as they were at one time. It's something we should definitely take into consideration before chalking it up as merely " more made up hysteria" as one respondent to my query suggests. This link was just sent to me by a friend...pretty scary news.softpedia.com news Can Your Mattress Kill You 76887.shtml
