Do store barcode scanners make you go blind?
When I was 6 a cashier told me that if I looked at his scanner I'd go blind. Ever since then I have had an irrational fear of checkout counters. I want to know, factually, if scanners can make you go blind? You know, that red light. And if so, how many times do you have to look at one to become blind? And also, why do they allow them in public places if it can be used as a weapon?Thanks.
Can general radio scanners scan trunking frequences?
today I bought a Radio shack 200ch programable scanner. I programed some frequencies I found on line but are not picking up anything. My main thing i want this radio is for police scanning, and so far it hasn't done its job. My radio is not trunking and im wondering if i should have bought a trunking radio. if you can find ANY norman oklahoma police scanner codes, that would be great. im starting to get concerned that i just wasted my money.

I have a BC346XT Trunk Tracker 3 Police Scanner Is there a way for me to get more range on a handheld Radio?
I have a Uni den BC346xt trunk tracker 3.The problem that I'm having is the range with my scanner.I brought a " Center Loaded Telescoping Scanner Ham Antenna" from Radio Shack for more range seem like it didn't pick up far signals that I expected. What are some far range antennas that are good for inside outside and on a truck 60 70 miles range.Hopefully I get some good ideals from many of you that uses Police scanners.

Scanner picking up encrypted transmissions?
There is someone I know who has a scanner BCD396T who showed me the scanner picking up encrypted transmission, when it picks up something for the first second or two you can hear only garbled speech and it says " LNK" on the screen, then after that on the screen it says " P25 ENC" and you can hear everything they are saying clearly. He told me he downloaded a modified firmware that allows the scanner to decode the encryption, and he says that " ENC" means encrypted. Does " ENC" mean encrypted? When it says " P25 ENC" does it really mean that the scanner is decoding encrypted transmissions because I heard that it is illegal to pick up encrypted transmissions and that there are no scanners made that can decode encryption. Can downloading a modified hacked firmware cause a scanner to decode encryption? When I try this on my scanner at the same time it is about 10 years old I just hear a buzzing noise and it says " 853.100" when I go to the same frequency as the " encrypted" transmission whereas his scanner is able to pick up the talking.
