I'm a verizon customer form the US. I'm in Japan okinawa and can't send texts back home to Hawaii, though I can receive them. I use a Samsung Stratosphere. Any ideas why I can't text? Verizon has been unable or unwilling to help as of yet.I can make calls with my phone from Okinawa to Hawaii, but that's $1.99 minute. I have used the same calling codes to try to send texts, using 010, then 1, then the 10 digit number for texting. Still doesn't work.I am from Hawaii and have a Verizon cell and data plan, so I am roaming while I am in Okinawa. I do not have an actual cell plan in Japan. All I'm trying to do is send a text message from my phone to my wife's phone in Hawaii. Calling works, but is expensive, which is why I'm trying to make the text messaging work. It really doesn't strike me that it should be difficult, but everything I try does not work when I try send out a text message.Email does work when I'm near a wi fi connection. I do not have the data feature active because it is also expensive to do data roaming. So yes, I use email where I can. Unfortunately, no wi fi in a lot of places I'm in while here in Okinawa. Could it be some type of setting on my Samsung Stratosphere?The Verizon people told me more than once that this feature should work. As of right now they have not been able to figure out why I can't my plan does not appear to have any limitations on international texting. I'm receiving texts just fine.
